Is there a free reverse image search that actually works?

Yes. Google Lens, Yandex, Bing Visual Search and TinEye are all free, but each one finds different things: Lens identifies objects and products, Yandex looks for similar faces, and TinEye finds exact copies of a picture. No single engine finds everything, so the reliable method is to run the same image through several.

What reverse image search can't do
- • Find images that were never posted publicly — private accounts, messaging apps and closed groups.
- • Identify a person for certain. A similar face is a lead, not proof.
- • Tell you whether an image is AI-generated. No matches doesn't prove a picture is real, or that it's fake.
- • Search inside a video. Take a screenshot of the frame and search that.

Can I reverse image search a screenshot?
Yes. Paste the screenshot into the search tool on this page (Ctrl+V or ⌘V), or use the extension's region capture to select just the picture. Crop out the status bar, captions and app buttons first: interface around the picture lowers match quality on every engine, and exact-copy engines like TinEye are hit hardest.
Can I reverse image search on my phone?
Yes. The search tool on this page works in any mobile browser, including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android: upload a photo from your gallery and open it in Google Lens, Yandex or TinEye. Bing isn't offered on phones because its image search doesn't accept these links on mobile. The browser extension runs on desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and on Firefox for Android.
Can I find a product or shoes from a photo?
Yes. Google Lens is the engine for that: it recognizes products and links to shops that sell them. Crop to the item first. Bing Visual Search is a good second try; TinEye rarely helps, since it only finds copies of the same photo.
